Thickness reduction

Blenkinsop Leathers Ltd. Est 1989.

Leather thickness reduction is the specialist process by which we reduce the depth of the leather to that required for your product. Two main procedures are used: (1) splitting in which >1 mm of material is removed and (2) shaving in which <1 mm of material is removed. Both processes have a precision of 0.1 mm.

Splitting

In this process the leather is split in half in which the top layer has the required thickness and a smooth and even back.

Shaving

Shaving is a process in which the back of the leather is removed through the use of a bladed cylinder until the leather reaches the required thickness.
